Obituary

William Roger Watkins, 77, of Roy Utah, passed away on October 18, 2025.

William was born on June 11, 1948, to Dale Monroe Watkins and Dorothy Agnes Rasmussen in Yakima, Washington. William and his family would relocate to Norwalk, California as a young boy. After graduation from Excelsior High School in 1966, he enjoyed the freedom that his Triumph motorcycle brought up until being drafted into the U.S. Army in 1968. He proudly fought as a member of the 198th Infantry Brigade, Americal Division, during the Vietnam conflict. William was honorably discharged in 1970, the recipient of two bronze stars and a purple heart.

Dad married his forever wife, Gail Irene Shorkey on December 30, 1976. Dad brought son William from a previous marriage (Sharon) and sons Rick, Michael and daughter Cherish from another previous marriage (Theresa). He gained four additional children from this forever union, daughters Sue, Cynthia, son Ron and daughter Sandra. A beautiful blended family indeed.

William spent the majority of his working career as a credit manager primarily in the big construction equipment industry. Hard work and pride in the Watkins name were a staple of his employment. Dad would later attend bible college and graduate from the school of ministry and delve into his true passion of sharing the gospel with the incarcerated. He proudly served as a chaplain for the Los Angeles County Jail for 10 years.

Dad was quick to share with anyone who would listen that he was born again Christian and that our Savior Jesus loved you right where you were.

Dad was preceded in death by his parents Dale and Dorothy, brother Chuck and sister Daylene. He is survived by his beautiful wife, Gail, and all eight of his blended children, Sue, Cindy, Ron, Sandie, Rick, William, Michael and Cherish. In addition, there are many grandchildren and great-grandchildren as well.

At Dad's specific request, no formal services will be held. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Washington Heights Church of South Ogden, Utah for the new sanctuary construction. Dad was proud congregant of Washington Heights and so very excited for the direction that Jesus was taking the church.

Dad, you are forever loved and we will see you soon at the rapture!
