IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Lawrence
Meckley
August 15, 1941 – December 26, 2024
Lawrence "Larry" David Meckley, 83, of North Ogden, Utah, passed away on December 26, 2024, surrounded by his loving wife, stepdaughter Lisa, and dear friends Dalon, Tammy, and Ashton Hadfield. He was born on August 15, 1941, in Ohio to Ralph and Elizabeth Meckley.
Larry is survived by his wife, Joan; his children, Debbie McGeever and David Meckley; his stepchildren, Lisa Williamsen, Jill Southwick, and Mark Williamsen; his grandchildren, Kevin McGeever and Danika Meckley; as well as many extended family members and friends. He was preceded in death by his stepson, Steven Williamsen.
Larry grew up in Amherst, Ohio, where he graduated from Amherst High School. A passionate athlete, Larry played football during his high school years and continued his love for the sport as a member of the Kent State University football team. He earned a degree in mechanical engineering and went on to have a distinguished career, working for NASA, White Motor, Volvo Truck, and Boeing, where he specialized in the AWACS program. He retired from Boeing in 2003.
Throughout his life, Larry had a thirst for adventure and a love for exploring the world. He traveled to 85 countries, often accompanied by Joan and a community of cherished friends. Whether he was petting tigers in Thailand, riding elephants in India, diving in the Great Barrier Reef, or hiking the Great Wall of China, Larry's zest for life was boundless. His love for travel took him to safaris in Africa, skiing with friends, skydiving over Seattle, and so much more. He shared countless stories of his adventures, always eager to recount the fun, laughter, and sometimes mischief of his travels.
He was a connoisseur of life's simple pleasures, including perfecting the art of making corned beef, celebrating Oktoberfest in lederhosen, enjoying a football game with his friends or watching the Utah Jazz with family, and whipping up the best chili around. He also volunteered his time to the Slaterville Veteran's Home by procuring items for their fundraising events and giving his time to the Freedom Riders. Above all, he was a loving husband, father, stepfather, grandfather, and friend.
A celebration of life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on January 11, 2025, at the First United Methodist Church, 1339 West 400 North, Marriott-Slaterville, Utah 84404.
Larry will be deeply missed for his adventurous spirit, and the many unforgettable memories he leaves behind. Thank you, Larry, for a life well-lived.
