Helen A.
Busker
May 28, 1933 – April 10, 2026
Helen Antoinette Young Busker, a devoted wife, mother, teacher, and adventurer, passed away peacefully on April 10, 2026, in Layton, Utah.
Born and raised in Chicago, Illinois, Helen was the only child of Howard A. and Lulu A. Young. Her parents nurtured her adventurous spirit and filled her life with exploration. Together, they traveled extensively, including a remarkable 101-day cruise around the world.
Helen graduated from Monmouth College in 1955, earning her Bachelor of Arts Degree in Elementary Education. While there, she was an active member of the swim club. After graduation, her passion for learning and exploring led her to become a civilian teacher for the Air Force, where she taught first grade in Indiana, Japan, and the United Kingdom.
While teaching in London, Helen met the love of her life, Loren Busker, who was serving in the Air Force. They were sealed in the London England Temple on June 2, 1961, beginning their life of love and faith.
As a military wife, she and her family lived and traveled throughout the United States and Europe. Family picnics, sightseeing and camping were favorite activities. They explored castles, cathedrals, and even traveled by train through East Germany to Berlin. She passed on her love of adventure to her children, along with enduring lessons in responsibility, kindness, and service.
Helen loved camping and being outdoors. She was active in the Girl Scout program and spent her summers either attending camp or working as a camp counselor. As an adult, she served for many years as a Young Women’s camp director for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Known for her determination, at the age of 70 she was the only camper to complete the mile swim—an achievement that reflected her strength and perseverance.
Helen was converted and baptized into the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints while she was living and teaching in Japan. As a devoted member, she expressed her faith wholeheartedly and served in many callings. Alongside her husband, she achieved her goal of serving as a missionary in the Calgary, Canada mission.
Helen created a home filled with love and joy. Holidays and birthdays were especially magical, marked by her gingerbread houses, homemade cookies, and memorable birthday and Easter Bunny cakes. An avid reader, she shared her love of books by reading to her children every night. These traditions became treasured memories for her family.
She was a constant source of support and encouragement in her children’s lives. She participated in their activities as a PTA member, room mother, scout leader, and dedicated high school band supporter. Her greatest joy was found in her children and their accomplishments.
Helen is survived by her seven children: Lorence (Lynelle), Lora Pancheri (Rock), Jennifer Wood (Tom), Jessica Penfold (Jeff), Julia Heaton (Jason), Rebecca Peters (Matt), and Rachel Babinsky (Joey). In addition, her posterity includes 37 grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Loren, and her granddaughter, Celina Pancheri.
Helen’s life was a beautiful tapestry of dedication, adventure, faith, and unconditional love. Her memory will be forever cherished by those fortunate enough to know her, and her spirit will continue to inspire all who follow in her footsteps.
